HARRIET HAYES;
 | Age: Thirties.
Full Name: Hannah Harriet Hayes (She took the stage name Harriet Hayes because there was already a Hannah Hayes in the union.)
Nickname: Harry
Position: One of the "Big Three" comedians on Studio 60.
Marital Status: Single. May be romantically involved with Darren Wells.
Place of Birth: Brighton, Michigan
Education: Did her Bachelor's in music at Rutgers University on an academic scholarship. Was then offered a scholarship from Kansas State University, but turned it down.
|
Religious Beliefs: Southern Baptist. Has no problem with premarital sex ("it might be the only sex I ever have") and does not know where she stands on gay marriage.
In one interview, when asked for an opinion, Harriet pointed out that the Bible condemns homosexuality and yet also says "judge not lest ye be judged" and that the issue was for smarter people than her to decide. The quote was truncated, however, and the article went to print quoting Harriet as having said only that homosexuality was condemned in the Bible. She gained criticism both from the left, for being too anti-gay, and from the right, for not being anti-gay enough.
Her mother introduced her to religion and used to take her to Church every Sunday. By the time she was six, she was able to quote whole passages of Scripture from memory, and she won a contest for being able to recite all sixty-six books of the Bible.
Harriet says that she became a christian and a comedian at about the same time at the age of eleven: "My mother put me in Church plays and one time I just went up on a line and to cover I went into a Judy Holliday impression. There was stunned silence until the minister burst out laughing, and I looked and I saw the pride on my mother's face, and I told her I was ready to accept Christ and I was baptised."
On Studio 60: Harriet turned down a scholarship for a Master's degree in music at Kansas State to start her comedy career. She started out sweeping floors at the Second City in Chicago, then moved to LA and interned with the Groundlings. She started getting some stage time, which is how she came to be noticed by Danny Tripp, who invited her to audition for Wes Mendell. She began working on Studio 60 in 1999 and is now one of the "Big Three" cast members, alongside Simon and Tom.
Family: "It was a small house with seven kids, a devout mother and a far-from-devout father who'd started to drink when he was laid off from the paper plant. I was good at diffusing tension." She has six brothers, all older and none of them religious. Both of her parents are dead. Her father worked in a paper processing plant until he was laid off and her mother was a secretary in a doctor's surgery. When Harriet was fifteen, her mother was diagnosed with cancer and died soon after. After her mother's death, the Women United Through Faith looked out for her and Harriet remains involved with the group to this day.
Personal History: Harry is a multi-talented performer who has been dancing and singing since the age of four. She claims she went into comedy because nobody wanted to hire her as a ballerina. She recently ended a romantic relationship with Matt Albie over her appearance on The 700 Club to promote her album of inspirational music. She briefly dated baseball pitcher Darren Wells, the "anti-Matt", after he gave her an autographed baseball bat with his phone number written on it, but left him after he tried the exact same move on Jordan.
